Inbizzy, Kansas City, Missouri, – Meta has officially opened its Kansas City Data Center, now fully operational and serving data traffic. Representing an investment of over $1 billion in Missouri, this facility marks a key addition to Meta’s global infrastructure, supporting connectivity for billions of users worldwide.
Brad Davis, Meta’s Director of Data Center Community and Economic Development, noted that Kansas City was chosen in 2022 for its strong infrastructure, reliable power grid, skilled workforce, and robust community partnerships.
Economic Impact and Community Support
Since 2011, Meta’s data center projects have supported over 30,000 construction jobs and more than 5,100 operational roles across the United States. The Kansas City Data Center alone employed an average of 1,500 skilled workers during peak construction and will create over 100 full-time jobs once fully operational.
Meta has also invested over $1 million in schools and non-profits across Clay County, Platte County, and Kansas City, Missouri. Through Community Accelerator programs, local businesses are learning to build digital skills and leverage tools like Meta AI. Additionally, Data Center Community Action Grants launched in 2024 are funding technology-driven and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) education initiatives.
Clean Energy and Water Efficiency
The Kansas City Data Center is LEED Gold certified, reflecting high standards in energy efficiency, water conservation, and responsible supply chain practices. All electricity usage is matched with 100% clean and renewable energy.
Innovative cooling systems significantly reduce water consumption, while stormwater reuse during construction saved over 1 million gallons of potable water.
Next-Generation AI-Optimized Data Centers
Meta is now developing its next-generation AI-optimized data centers, with the first facility set to go live in 2026. These centers will combine high performance, flexible infrastructure, and custom hardware solutions, using AI technologies to enhance resource efficiency and sustainability.
Meta will continue to partner with energy providers to expand clean energy projects and support local communities through job creation, local sourcing, and educational grants.
