Anthropic Set to Secure New Funding, Valuation May Soar to $170 Billion

Inbizzy, San Francisco, July 30, 2025 — Artificial intelligence company Anthropic is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to raise up to $5 billion in fresh capital. The upcoming funding round is expected to push the company’s valuation to around $170 billion, placing it among the most valuable players in the global AI sector.

According to a report by Bloomberg https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-07-29/anthropic-nears-funding-at-170-billion-value-as-revenue-surges , Iconiq Capital, a Silicon Valley investment firm known for managing wealth for prominent tech figures such as Facebook’s founders and Stripe executives, is leading the round. The deal is estimated to be worth between $3 billion and $5 billion, with Iconiq reportedly considering a commitment of around $1 billion.

Iconiq’s involvement reflects strong institutional confidence in the long-term growth of large language model (LLM) technologies being developed by Anthropic. The firm is known for its long-horizon investment strategy focused on data-driven companies with global expansion potential.

In addition to Iconiq, Anthropic is also in talks with major sovereign wealth funds, including the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) and Singapore’s GIC. These strategic global investors have been actively deploying capital into frontier technology sectors such as AI, digital infrastructure, and clean energy. Their interest in Anthropic highlights a broader trend: state-backed funds with vast reserves are increasingly treating artificial intelligence as a core pillar of future digital economies.

Meanwhile, Amazon.com Inc., which previously invested billions in Anthropic, is also reportedly among the potential participants in this round. Amazon’s earlier investments align with its broader strategy to strengthen its AI portfolio and support cloud-based AI ecosystem development through integration with AWS (Amazon Web Services).

The participation of such high-profile names demonstrates Anthropic’s ability to attract cross-spectrum support—from venture capital to sovereign wealth and global tech giants. This not only underlines the strategic value of Anthropic’s technology but also reflects the intensifying geopolitical and industrial competition to dominate the generative AI landscape.

This funding initiative comes amid surging revenue performance. By the end of July 2025, Anthropic’s annual recurring revenue (ARR) reached approximately $5 billion, up from earlier estimates of $4 billion. The company projects that ARR could grow further to $9 billion by year-end, indicating robust commercial traction.

The upcoming round marks a significant jump from Anthropic’s previous valuation of $61.5 billion, reached in an earlier $3.5 billion round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. Lightspeed is reportedly returning in this round, alongside other top-tier venture firms such as Menlo Ventures and Alkeon Capital Management.

Anthropic is said to be accepting only large commitments, with a minimum ticket size of $200 million. Negotiations are ongoing, and final terms may still evolve.

Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI core team members, Anthropic has built a reputation as a trusted and safety-focused AI developer. The company has emerged as a key competitor to OpenAI and xAI (led by Elon Musk), both of which have also raised billions this year to expand their infrastructure and model capabilities.

Although the company previously expressed caution about accepting capital from authoritarian-led states, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei acknowledged in a Bloomberg-cited internal memo the need for flexibility in its global fundraising strategy. This reflects a broader reality in today’s capital-intensive AI industry—where high ethical standards must sometimes be balanced with pragmatic business demands to remain globally competitive.

With this move, Anthropic further solidifies its role as one of the leading forces in global AI development, emphasizing security, responsibility, and long-term sustainability in artificial intelligence innovation.
