Figma Expands Investment in Australia with Local Data Hosting and Governance+ Features for Enterprise Clients

Inbizzy, Sydney, Australia – Figma has officially announced a major expansion in the Asia Pacific region by introducing local data residency options in Australia and launching Governance+, a new suite of enterprise-grade features designed to enhance data control, security, and compliance.

Since opening its Sydney office in November 2024, Figma has seen rapid growth in the Australian market, serving some of the country’s leading companies including National Australia Bank (NAB), Safety Culture, and Atlassian. The company confirmed that it will begin local file hosting in Australia starting Q4 2025.

“Australia is among the fastest growing markets for Figma in Asia Pacific. We’ve heard from Australian customers who deeply care about data protection and security that they’d like the option to have their data stored locally. As more companies recognise design as a true differentiator, we want to provide them with secure, local infrastructure needed to build with confidence,” said Scott Pugh, Vice President of Sales and General Manager, Asia Pacific, at Figma.

Local Data Hosting to Serve Regulated Industries

This move is especially relevant for highly regulated sectors such as government, finance, and healthcare, which require strict data handling and storage policies. By keeping data within Australian borders, customers can enjoy Figma’s scalability and performance while maintaining stronger control over data location and compliance.

“Designing simple, intuitive experiences for customers is essential to us at NAB, especially for our mobile apps and Internet banking where more than 98% of all customer interactions now occur. Figma has been a key part of our design tooling to help us create customer-obsessed products and services. This initiative will expand the ways we can use the entire Figma suite to create even better experiences for NAB’s customers,” said Lance Thornswood, Chief Design Officer, National Australia Bank.

Governance+ Enhances Enterprise Control and Security

To strengthen its commitment to enterprise users, Figma is launching Governance+, a package of advanced governance and security features that provide greater oversight of data access, sharing, and retention. Governance+ includes:

  • Centralized Control: Align all Figma activity with company-approved networks and instances via IP Allowlist and Network Access Restrictions (NAR).
  • Account Security: Enforce stronger authentication measures with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and Extended Idle Session Timeout to mitigate data risk.
  • Data Governance: Ensure compliance with internal standards through tools like the Discovery Pipeline, supporting electronic communication retention and legal discovery processes.

These capabilities build upon Figma’s existing enterprise features, such as SAML single sign-on, action logs, role assignments, and controls that restrict external collaborators from accessing internal environments.

A Strategic Step Toward Asia Pacific Leadership

The rollout of local hosting in Australia marks Figma’s first data residency expansion in the Asia Pacific region, following similar deployments in the United States and Europe. It reflects Figma’s continued investment in digital growth and creative technology infrastructure throughout the region.
