Nvidia Secures U.S. Approval to Export $5.5 Billion Worth of AI Chips to China

Inbizzy, Beijing/Washington, – U.S. tech giant Nvidia has received official approval from the administration of President Donald Trump to export its advanced H20 AI chips to China. The move paves the way for Nvidia to resume sales in the world’s second-largest technology market, despite ongoing geopolitical tensions and increasing export restrictions imposed by the United States.

CEO Jensen Huang Meets Trump and Chinese Officials

Nvidia’s founder and CEO Jensen Huang confirmed that export licenses for the H20 chips will soon be granted by U.S. authorities. During his visit to Washington, D.C., Huang met with President Trump and key U.S. policymakers, reaffirming the company’s commitment to bolstering domestic AI infrastructure and supporting job creation in the United States.

Following his Washington visit, Huang traveled to Beijing to attend the China International Supply Chain Expo, where he met with high-ranking Chinese officials, including Ren Hongbin, Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.

“Today I’m announcing that the U.S. government has approved for us to file licenses to start shipping H20s,” Huang said during an interview in Beijing, as reported by CGTN.”Half of the world’s AI researchers are in China. It’s so innovative and dynamic here that it’s really important that American companies are able to compete and serve this market.”

Nvidia RTX PRO: A Fully Compliant New Product

In addition to the H20 export update, Huang also introduced the Nvidia RTX PRO, a new GPU fully compliant with U.S. export regulations. The product is designed to support AI-powered digital twins, particularly in smart factory and logistics environments.

Nvidia’s Global AI Mission: Open-Source and Inclusive

Huang emphasized that AI has become a fundamental global resource, on par with energy, water, and the internet. He reiterated Nvidia’s commitment to supporting open-source research, foundation models, and applications that enable equitable AI access across emerging markets-including Latin America, Asia, and Europe.

“General-purpose, open-source research and foundation models are the backbone of AI innovation. We believe that every civil model should run best on the U.S. technology stack, encouraging nations worldwide to choose America,” Huang stated in Nvidia’s official blog.

U.S. Tightens Controls, But Nvidia Secures Carve-Out

The decision comes amid escalating export controls by the U.S. government. Earlier this year, the Trump administration announced restrictions on the sale of Nvidia’s H20 chips and AMD’s MI308 chips to China, citing concerns about potential military applications of civilian AI technologies.

Despite these regulations, Nvidia successfully secured a $5.5 billion carve-out, allowing the company to reenter the Chinese market with approved licenses. Shipments are expected to begin shortly.

Nvidia Crosses $4 Trillion in Market Value

Nvidia recently became the world’s most valuable public tech company, with a market capitalization exceeding $4 trillion. This milestone reflects the surging demand for AI capabilities across industries-from automotive to healthcare.

However, the growing U.S.-China tech rivalry remains a significant challenge. The emergence of China’s DeepSeek AI chatbot in early 2025 reignited national security concerns in Washington regarding the use of foreign-sourced advanced chips in accelerating China’s AI development.
