Indonesia and Saudi Arabia Sign $10 Billion Clean Energy Deal, Launch Strategic Coordination Council

Inbizzy, Jakarta, – Indonesia’s state investment agency, Badan Pengelola Investasi Daya Anagata Nusantara (BPI Danantara), has entered into a strategic partnership with Saudi energy company ACWA Power to develop large-scale clean energy projects in Indonesia. The investment is valued at US$10 billion, or approximately IDR 162 trillion. The announcement was made by Rosan Roeslani, CEO of Danantara Indonesia, who stated that the agreement underscores the strengthening economic ties between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. “In addition to the investment agreement between Danantara and ACWA Power, the visit also led to an agreement on the development of an Indonesian Hajj Village in Mecca,” Rosan said via his official social media account, quoted Monday (7/7).

Supreme Coordination Council Officially Established

The deal was signed during the state visit of President Prabowo Subianto to Saudi Arabia and coincided with the official formation of the Supreme Coordination Council (SCC) – a high-level bilateral platform established by President Prabowo and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS). The SCC will serve as the central institution to monitor and drive forward strategic cross-sector partnerships between the two nations. “We have just established the Supreme Coordination Council between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia. We agreed to enhance cooperation in all areas. I’m very satisfied – it has been a productive meeting. God willing, we will see significant progress in our partnership with Saudi Arabia,” said President Prabowo.

Total Business Agreements Reach US$27 Billion

The clean energy agreement is part of a broader set of business deals and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed during the visit, amounting to US$27 billion (approximately IDR 437.8 trillion). Key focus areas include:

  • Clean energy transition
  • Digital economy
  • Downstream industrial development
  • Green technology

Key Sectors of Cooperation: Energy, Health, and Technology

In addition to energy, both nations committed to expanding strategic cooperation in several other areas:

  • Development of hydrogen technology and supply chains
  • Joint training and research programs in energy efficiency
  • Enhanced health services, particularly for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims
  • Collaboration in pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and medical technology industries

Saudi Arabia: One of Indonesia’s Key Trade Partners

Saudi Arabia remains one of Indonesia’s most important trading partners in the Middle East. Over the past five years, bilateral trade between the two countries has reached approximately US$31.5 billion (around IDR 502.7 trillion). Both leaders agreed to boost trade volumes, increase high-level visits, and strengthen the role of the Saudi-Indonesia Business Council to promote future economic partnerships.
